My Princes of Zodiac collection is all about blending the magic of Fairytales and the mysticism of star signs. This particular piece highlights the Zodiac sign, Pisces. As the last sign in the Zodiac table and the final water symbol, it has always held a special place in my imagination.
My use of bright, ethereal tones on a deep blue background aims to emulate the magic of the ocean and the power of the Zodiac. The image centers on a young merboy, the Prince of the Zodiac sign Pisces. He is, of course, surrounded by sea creatures, showing his connection with the underwater world.
One bold red fish holds focus in the middle of the image. I wanted to make this stark contrast to represent the heart of Pisces. It is the most compassionate, emotional, empathetic, and sensitive of all the Zodiac signs, so it was important for me to have that represented in this artwork.
The movement of my brushwork
The texture of the painting blends swirling strokes with almost crustacean-like clusters. I wanted to emulate the image of the Pisces Zodiac sign: two fish swimming against each other in a loop. Rather than use that picture explicitly, I chose to emulate that conflict in the movement of my brushwork.
I envision this Prince of Zodiac as a nursery room décor meant to stimulate and encourage your own young prince or princess’s mind and imagination. Fairytales are filled with unending possibilities, but none translate to our real lives quite as the Zodiac can. Even the littlest mind can absorb a world of information and thought by looking at art- perhaps even more than we can. Fill their space with color, wonder, and magic.
The Zodiac sign, Pisces, is more than a fairytale, and this Prince of Zodiac is not just a picture to hang on the wall. It is a gateway for moldable imaginations to grow and learn to marvel in the world of mysticism and art.
