Jewish tradition is steeped in history and symbolism. In fact, the Hebrew language is an ancient art form in and of itself. My Eternal Letter series highlights and glorifies this culture-rich dialect and the powerful role it has played over the years.
The latest piece of modern figurative abstract art in my collection features bold colors, strong imagery, and scattered Hebrew letters. I felt it important to weave the letters through the painting and intertwine them with the other symbolic images to emphasize how integral the language is, and always has been, to the Jewish faith.

I felt it important to weave the letters through the painting and intertwine them with the other symbolic images to emphasize how integral the language is, and always has been, to the Jewish faith.
My use of primary colors in their purest, brightest form was very deliberate. The heavy indigo blue used as the background is the color of Judaism, representing the idea of spirituality. It perfectly offsets against the golden yellow Biblical Hebrew symbolic letters while emphasizing the burst of vibrant yellow in the sunflowers. To me, these represent the resilience, belief, and unwavering faith of the Jewish people.
I also added varying textures to the letters to give them an overall different appearance from the rest of the painting. Rather than the vivacious streaks and flecks used throughout the rest of the work, I used short regimented strokes to make them feel older and more permanent somehow. This technique was my way of portraying just how ancient these symbols are and representing how solid and unmoving they are for this faith.
Overall, my hope for this painting was to combine the endless hopefulness of the Jewish people through the child-like, vibrant color palette and positive imagery with the memory of the ancient Hebrew culture that brought us here. The past, present, and future come together through mixed textures, tones, and shapes, creating a fluid yet resolute portrayal of the never-ending strength of these eternal letters.
